Nervous suspects(嫌疑犯) locked up in Britain's newest police station may feel relieved by a pleasant yellow Colour on the door. If they are close to confessing a crime, the blue on the wall might tip the balance.

Gwent Police have abandoned colours such as greys and browns of the 20th-century police cell(牢房) and have used colour psychology to decorate them.

Ystrad Mynach station, which recently opened at a cost of£5 million, has four cells with glass doors for prisoners who suffer from claustrophobia(幽闭恐怖症). Designers have painted the frames yellow, which researchers say is a calming colour. Other cells contain a royal blue line because psychologists believe that the colour is likely to encourage truthfulness.

The station has 31 cells, including 12 with a “live scan” system for drunken or disturbed prisoners, which detects the rise and fall of their chest. An alarm alerts officers if a prisoner's breathing stops and carries on ringing until the door is opened.

Designers and psychologists have worked for years on colour. Blue is said to suggest trust, efficiency, duty, logic, coolness, thinking and calm. It also suggests coldness and unfriendliness. It is thought that strong blues will stimulate clear thought and lighter, soft colours will calm the mind and aid concentration.

Yellow is linked with confidence, self-respect and friendliness. Get the colour wrong and it could cause fear, depression and anxiety, but the right yellow can lift spirits and self-respect.

Ingrid Collins, a psychologist who specializes in the effects of colour, said that colour was an “energy force”. She said: “Blue does enhance communication but I am not sure it would enhance truthful communication.”

Yellow, she said, affected the mind. Red, on the other hand, should never be considered because it could increase aggression. Mrs Collins praised the designers for using colours in the cells. Gwent is not the first British force to experiment with colour to calm down or persuade prisoners to co-operate. In the 1990s Strathclyde Police used pink in cells based on research carried out by the US Navy.

69. The expression “tip the balance” in paragraph 1 probably indicates that the blue might ____.

A. let suspects keep their balance B. help suspects to confess their crimes

C. make suspects cold and unfriendly in law court D. enable suspects to change their attitudes to colours

70. Which of the following colours should NOT be used in cells according to me passage?

A. Pink. B. Yellow C. Blue. D. Red.

71. Which of the following helps alert officers if someone stops breathing?

A. Scanning equipment. B. Royal blue lines. C. Glass doors. D.Yellow frames.

72. The passage is mainly concerned with ______

A. the relationship between colours and psychology B. a comparison of different functions of colours

C. the use of colours in cells to affect criminals’ psychology

D. scientific ways to help criminals reform themselves in prison

73. The word “talion” in introducing the book Eye for an Eye is probably a concept of ______.

A. medicine B. trade C. avenging D. striving

74. The book entitled A History of Modern Indonesia has focus on _______.

The “Bystander Apathy Effect” was first studied by researchers in New York after neighbours ignored—and in some cases turned up the volume on their TVs—the cries of a woman as she was murdered(over a half-hour period). With regard to helping those in difficulty generally, they found that:

(1) women are helped more than men;

(2) men help more than women;

(3) attractive women are helped more than unattractive women.

Other factors relate to the number of people in the area, whether the person is thought to be in trouble through their own fault, and whether a person sees himself as being able to help.

According to Adrian Furnham, Professor 0f University College, London, there are three reasons why we tend to stand by doing nothing:

(1) “Shifting of responsibility”一the more people there are, the less likely help is to be given. Each person excuses himself by thinking someone else will help, so that the more “other people’ there are, the greater the total shifting of responsibility.

(2) “'Fear of making a mistake'’一situations are often not clear. People think that those involved in an accident may know each other or it may be a joke, so a fear of embarrassment makes them keep themselves to themselves.

(3) “Fear of the consequences if attention is turned on you, and the person is violent.”

Laurie Taylor, Professor of Sociology at London University, says: “In the experiments I’ve seen on intervention(介入), much depends on

解析in case以防,even if即使,ever since自从那时,if

only如果…

up、look、listen等,再者就是用进行来表示语气情感加强,如麦当劳的广告语“I’m loving it”,译为“我就喜欢”。

33

35

答案A

don’t know”判断出语气较弱,故选might。

36

答案C train

37

答案A since

38

答案A tell

hard to tell who is who 很难辨别出谁是谁。

39

答案D noticed

40

答案B well

41

答案B sport

42

答案C different

43

答案D condition

44

答案C challenge

45

答案D trust

46

答案A fearful

47

答案C off

48

答案B treated

49

答案D problems

50

答案A positive

51

答案B quitting

52

答案D goal

53

答案C when

before在…

54

答案A proud

55

答案B advice

A 篇

56

57

答案:A

59

答案:A

Is she going to

65

答案:A

68

答案:A

最后一段当中的“people who are

multitasking are generally less sensitive to risky situation” 为正确答案出处,故选C。

71

Only the beginning.

Other 是明显承上启下的功能,后面的the process of证明了这一点,故选D

73

The rest

74

答案:A

Last Monday, my father would be on a business trip

for five days. Having gotten my promise of being great at home and taking care

of my mother, he rest assured and put his luggage into the trunk of his car.

Seeing my father’s driving away, my mother and I waved our hands and said

goodbye to him. For a moment, I began to miss my father, wishing that he would

be safe and well the next days.

I thought everything would go well, as this was not

the first time that my father had been away for several days. Yet,

unfortunately, my mother caught a cold the next morning. Looking at her pale

face, I experienced high levels of anxiety. However, I told myself that I had to

calm down and look after my mum, as I promised to my dad. The moment I got my

mum to sleep, I put cold towel on her forehead, found pills in the medicine box,

and made some noodles for her. Luckily, she waked up and felt better, after

taking the pills and the noodles. That her fever was gone relieved and satisfied

me a lot.

In the next four days, I was taking her body

temperature twice a day, ensuring that she was completely well. To our delight,

my dad went back home safely and healthily on Saturday. On hearing what I had

done to my mum, he, as well as my mum, beamed at me and gave me a big thumb.

Hearing their praises and seeing bright smiles on their faces, I really felt

overjoyed and thrilled. Conceivably, taking care of my parents was, indeed and

definitely, my mission and obligation.

Hi, Jim, there is an interesting picture conveying a

message vividly that a difference between reality and dream may as well be

recognized in our life. Evidently, realizing this difference and trying to

shorten this gap is the key to achieving our accomplishment, otherwise nothing

will be gotten in the end.

In our daily life, some people are aware of their

ability, making great efforts to improve themselves, while others ignore the

disparity between their earnest wish and poorest actuality, doing nothing but

complaining. Conceivably, the confused man in the picture is exactly the latter

one. In this picture, a man is fishing on a big stone, waiting and waiting.

However, the small fish he has caught is totally different from the big one he

is longing for. Now, there are two options in front of him: face the reality and

keep trying till get the dreamy fish, or drop his fishing rod and feel

desperate. Apparently, he chooses the second one. Such a situation seems fairly

common in our society. We are faced with this kind of intriguing question all

the time, and every choice we make has great influence on our way to success.

Making an accurate estimate of our realities and dreams, then sparing no efforts

to approach the tip is the only option for us to make, provided that we are in

great want of achieving our goals.

Based on the above statement, a conclusion will be

arrived at that learning to accept the reality and adopting a positive attitude

towards the dream is what we are supposed to do, when confronting our

less-satisfying situation.

1、July

A. diary B. energy C. reply D. daily

2、medicine

A. twice B. medical C. perfect D. clinic

3、seize

A.neighbour B.weigh C.eight D.receive

seize中的“ei”读音/i:/。

4、determine

A. remind B. minister C. smile D. tidy

5、exist

A. experience B. examine C. excite D. explode

exist读音[i?’zist]。

All the dishes in this menu, otherwise stated, will serve two to three people. What I need isbook that containsABC of oil painting. A. a; 不填B. the; 不填C. the; anD. a ; the If you leave the club, you will not beback in . A. receivedB. admittedC. turnedD. moved

I couldn’t say I didn’t like21, whatever it might be,22I tried it. 21. A. everything B. somethingC. everybody D. somebody22. A. until after B. ever sinceC. so thatD. long before

I couldn’t have been more29. 29. I mastered the skills of that beginning level position and I was given the opportunity(机会)to30through the company into different31. 30. A. look up B. take upC. move up D. put up 31. I’ve discovered I35 a large number of different talents(才能)and skills that I never would have thought were within me had it not been for my being36trying new opportunities. 35. A. show B. possess C. needD. gather36. 因此,此句中用possess(拥有)才是准确的,而不是show(表现出)。 36题应选C. open to.

Many of his finest pictures are(悬挂)in the National museum. Many of his finest pictures hang in the National museum. John missed the game because of(幼儿园)in September. 此处应是go to kindergarten的意思。类似于go to school, in hospital, in prison 等结构里的名词抽象化,而非指具体的地方,因而既不用冠词,也不变复数。

比如:数词的表达“800米的街道(this 800-metre street),有600多年的历史 (of over 600 years old)。还有介词的恰当应用,如“沿着”(along),“天安门广场南面”(to the south of Tian’anmen Square). 并列连词的适时应用,如not only…but also,和句式的变化,如there be 句型,it’s convenient to do…

 语音知识的五小题中,分别按照这样的规律来设计试题:a)元音+辅音字母组合一个小题;考查our组合:course A. journey B. four C. labour D. hour。b)元音字母读音一个小题:具体考查了字母a的读音:match A. separate B. marry C. machine D. many; c)辅音字母读音一个小题,具体考查了s的读音:rise A. purse B. else C. praise D. mouse ; d)辅音+辅音字母组合。具体考查了th组合读音: bathe A. faith B. cloth C. maths D. smooth ; e)元音+元音字母组合。 Britain A. certain B. train C. against D. contain。

I don’t know any Anna, either;还考查到(第10小题):go ahead (行的,问吧!)答案选B。

2、连词类辨析:在第7小题和第13小题分别对:once, because, if 及unless;but, till, and及or等词作出在具体语境中的辨析。 A small car is big enough for a family of three ________ you need more space for baggage. A. once B. because C. if D. unless. Stand over there _______ you’ll be able to see the oil painting better. A. but B. till C. and D. or。

It’s not _______ good idea to drive for fours without ______ break.

这两道试题涉及的短语有:turn off (关掉),turn around (转身),turn over (翻页,随便看看),turn up (出现)以及pick up(捡起,拾起)。

这里通过前面的语境及谓语结构(这是解答虚拟语气试题的关键):If the weather had been better, we could have had a picnic. 故而在 But it ______ all day的空里,可以判断答案rained.

Lisa ______ well not want to go on the trip----she hates traveling. A. will B. can C. must D. may。

If their marketing plans succeed, they ________ their sales by 20 percent. A. will increase B. have been increasing C. have increased D. would be increasing. 该题选项:A. will increase.

The road condition there turned out to be very good, ________ was more than we could expect. A. it B. what C. which D. that。

 9. 动词词义辨析:在第18小题中,设计了:collect(收集),contain(容纳),load(承载),以及save(节省)四个动词进行辨析。

其中比较有意思的是:在口语中like=like about。

Thompson, today, you smell just like my Mom used to.”

What can you do there? 在接下来的答句则出现了:…..you can go for long walks……再比如第84小题:……What a good place to stay in! No, you can’t stay on the island……

 1、参加中文学习班;

 2、多看中文书刊、收看中文电视;

 要求:1、100字左右;

 2、为使行文连贯,你可以适当增加一些内容;

 Dear Peter,

I’m glad to receive your letter asking for my advice on how to learn Chinese well.

 _____________________________________________________________

 ____________________________________________________________

 ____________________________________________________________

 ____________________________________________________________

 Yours truly,

 Li Hua

考生在写作中,注意思路不要受到以前训练的固有模式,即:对英文学习方法的建议的干扰,我们已经问卷,发现有学生粗心大意,按照以前的训练思维写成了“英语学习的方法建议信”。其二、考生需要在信中有机的整合试题提供的四点信息:1)、to take a Chinese course; 2)、read more Chinese newspapers and magazines and watch more Chinese TV programmes; 3)、to learn and sing Chinese songs; 4)、make more Chinese friends;

 考生在行文的整体性上,要合理使用到一些连接词或短语或结构,比如:you’d better…; I think…; I suggest that….; first/ at first/first of all…; secondly; then; as a matter of fact…; generally speaking; I wish…/I hope…etc.

 Dear Peter,

I’m glad to receive your letter asking for my advice on how to learn Chinese well.

Here are a few suggestions. First, it is important to take a Chinese course, as you’ll be able to learn from the teachers and practice with your fellow students. Then, it also helps to watch TV and read books, newspapers and magazines in Chinese whenever possible.

Besides, it should be a good idea to learn and sing Chinese songs, because by doing so you’ll learn and remember Chinese words more easily. You can make more Chinese friends. They will tell you a lot about China and help you learn Chinese.

Try and write me in Chinese next time.

 Best wishes,

 Li Hua
